A customer asked why it is not recommended to prepare the plating solution with tap water when using acid copper brightener.

The quality of tap water is slightly better than that of ordinary well water. For general conventional plating types, it can meet the requirements of medium and low-end products to a certain extent, such as copper-tin alloy plating, nickel plating and zinc plating.

However, for some products with high requirements, choosing tap water for the tank is still not feasible, such as electroplated copper, electroplated hard chromium, and electroplated imitation gold products, etc. Why? Because tap water contains a relatively high concentration of chloride ions, and in electroplating production, these plating types are relatively sensitive to chloride ions.

Although tap water has been treated with molecular sieves and ion exchange resins, it contains much less organic impurities compared to well water. However, the quality of tap water varies in different regions and at different times of the year, which to some extent also affects the stability of product quality.
