Faults in the coating caused by excessive lead impurities
If zinc sheets of low purity are used in production, they are likely to introduce lead impurities (it is recommended to use No. 0 zinc sheets). Lead is more harmful than copper; particularly in barrel plating, high levels of lead impurities can prevent the zinc coating from depositing. If this plating solution is tested in a Hull cell, the coating may appear normal, which often leaves technicians troubleshooting on-site feeling completely in the dark, as they cannot immediately identify the root cause.
Methods for accurately detecting lead impurities
So, how should we make the judgment then? Engineer Bigley believes that when using alkaline zinc plating additives, if there is a lot of lead impurities, in addition to causing the roller plating coating not to deposit, after the brightening process in dilute nitric acid, the coating will appear yellowish-brown. After passivating in a low-chromium passivation solution, the film layer will show an interference color of yellow and cannot obtain the beautiful blue-white tone.

The electroplating factory can, based on the above phenomenon, perform normal passivation treatment on the workpieces after galvanizing, and observe the appearance effect after passivation. This way, they can accurately determine whether there is excessive lead impurity.
