Why does the coating tend to get scorched after the nickel plating solution is processed extensively?

When using the electroplating nickel brightener, the reason why the nickel coating is prone to burning is numerous. For instance, excessive current density, unreasonable anode arrangement, low solution temperature, and low nickel ion concentration are some of the factors. In actual production, the causes and countermeasures should be analyzed specifically according to the actual situation.

A certain electroplating factory found that the coating would easily get scorched after the large-scale treatment of the nickel plating solution. Despite trying various methods, the problem still couldn't be resolved. Therefore, they invited the manufacturer of the nickel brightener, Bigely, to come and assist in solving the problem.

The engineers of Bigely analyzed the cause, which might be that the nickel ions were excessively consumed during the large-scale treatment of the solution. Why is this so? The main reason is that during the process of increasing the pH value to eliminate metal impurities and precipitating them in the form of hydroxides, some nickel ions would also precipitate along with them. This is one of the reasons.

Secondly, during the filtration process in the electroplating factory, there is also a considerable loss of the solution and a large amount of waste deposited at the bottom of the tank.

The combined loss in these three aspects could potentially amount to 10% of the entire solution volume. That is to say, it is equivalent to 30 to 40 g/L. If the concentration of nickel ions in the original solution was already at the lower limit of the formulation range, then the above quality failure could occur.

Based on this assumption, Engineer Bigely suggested that the electroplating factory add 50g/L nickel sulfate to the solution, and the problem was immediately resolved on the spot.
