When processing complex-shaped workpieces for thick chromium plating, the problem of poor uniformity occurs. Is it because of the chromium plating additives? Actually, it may not be the case. We know that the chromic anhydride chromium plating solution, due to its low current efficiency, requires a very high current density. Especially for functional chromium plating, the chromium coating needs to be thickened. For instance, for the repaired parts, the chromium coating thickness should be above 200 μm. Therefore, under such conditions, it is very difficult to ensure the uniformity of the chromium coating and meet the requirements of roundness tolerance.

When using chromium plating additives, if the part has a complex shape, thickening the chromium plating becomes even more challenging in terms of achieving uniformity of the chromium coating. Therefore, for such parts, grinding processing must be carried out after plating to ensure the uniformity of the chromium coating.

For simpler-shaped parts such as piston rods, cylinders, and pins, if the chromium plating characteristics can be mastered during operation, a relatively uniform thick chromium layer can be achieved. There is no need for grinding processing, and they can be used directly. This is beneficial for shortening the production cycle, reducing costs, and improving production efficiency.
