The components in the high-speed matte tin plating solution include free acid, divalent tin ions, and high-speed matte tin additives. What are the functions of these two components? And what is the relationship between them?
Divalent tin ion
The divalent tin ion Sn2+ is the main salt in the plating solution. When the electroplating plant increases the concentration of Sn2+ in the plating solution, it will bring about two effects: one is that the allowable upper limit of current density can be raised, and the other is that the dispersion ability of the plating solution will be reduced. The electroplated products may have rough edges of the coating layer, excessive thickness distribution, and in severe cases, even incomplete plating.
Such electroplating faults are more likely to occur especially when the temperature is low.
When the content of Sn2+ is too low, the high current area is prone to scorching and hydrogen evolution increases, resulting in a decrease in current efficiency. Therefore, when using the Bigely high-speed tin plating additive Sn-827, if a high-speed continuous plating process is adopted, the content of Sn2+ should be controlled within 40 to 90 grams per liter.
Additive
In the high-speed matte tin plating solution, the continuous matte tin additive plays an important role. It can regulate the fineness and uniformity of the plating layer's crystallization. Only when the Bigely high-speed matte tin additive Sn-827 is added can a fine-crystallized and uniformly-thick plating layer be obtained. It can also prevent Sn2+ from being oxidized to Sn4+. This helps ensure good stability of the plating solution, and the electroplating factory does not need to spend too much time and manpower cost to adjust and maintain the plating solution.
