When using barrel nickel brightener, to ensure that the bright barrel nickel plating solution in deep holes remains in proper working condition, the following issues must be addressed, and every effort must be made to ensure they are properly handled.

Pre-processing precautions

Take battery cases as an example: these are parts with blind holes. The diameter-to-depth ratio of a No. 5 battery case is as high as 1:3.5, meaning the hole has a small diameter but is deep. When performing pretreatment on such plated parts, it is difficult to thoroughly clean them using both degreasing solutions and acid activation solutions.

If cleaning is not thorough, these solutions will be carried into the nickel plating bath, contaminating it and causing a decline in its performance. For parts with through-holes such as these, Bigely—as a manufacturer of nickel plating brighteners—recommends that degreasing and acid activation be performed in a barrel lined with stainless steel mesh.

Furthermore, the drum must be kept rotating continuously during degreasing, acid activation, and rinsing to ensure that oil residue on the inner walls of the parts is thoroughly removed and the inner walls are fully acid-activated. A drive mechanism must be installed on the conveyor so that the drum can continue to rotate even when it is above the liquid surface; this allows the solution trapped inside the blind holes to be completely drained.

① Because the battery shell has no through holes and the depth of the holes is so deep, the coverage and dispersion capabilities of the luminous agent need to be extremely good.

② Because the current density during the electroplating process of the battery shell is very low, but the electroplating time is long, usually exceeding 2 hours. As a result, the coating on the edge parts of the battery shell is often quite thick. Moreover, these edge parts need to be rolled after electroplating. If the flexibility of the coating is not good enough, the coating will peel off during the rolling process.
