When using the acid copper brightener, why is the surface finish of the middle part of the flat piece not as good as expected?
There is insufficient sulfuric acid and excessive copper sulfate.
The main functions of sulfuric acid are threefold :
① Activate the anode
② Enhance the conductivity of the plating solution
③ Prevent the hydrolysis of copper sulfate
The concentration of sulfuric acid in the plating solution can vary within a wide range. When using an acidic copper plating brightener, it is generally necessary to control the concentration within the range of 50-70 grams per liter. When the concentration of sulfuric acid decreases, it will reduce the electrical conductivity of the plating solution, thereby reducing the dispersion ability of the plating solution.
Copper sulfate is the main salt in the plating solution, providing the necessary divalent copper ions for electroplating. Its content in the plating solution is generally 180 to 240 grams per liter. Electroplating factories can adjust the dosage according to different application scenarios.
When the content of copper sulfate in the plating solution is high, it helps ensure an adequate supply of copper ions, allowing the upper limit of current density to be increased and the deposition speed to accelerate. However, if the content is too high, the dispersion ability and filling degree of the plating solution will deteriorate. Copper sulfate is prone to crystallization and precipitation, sometimes even on the anode, reducing the actual area of the anode and thereby affecting the quality of the coating.
Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the contents of these two components are within the range specified in the product manual.
