When using the acid copper brightener, the plating solution in the electroplating factory frequently breaks down. Why is that? Actually, sometimes it has something to do with the anode plates you are using.
What kind of copper anode should be used for acid copper plating? It is recommended to choose the phosphorus-containing copper anode supplied by professional manufacturers. Why choose the phosphorus copper anode? This is because pure copper anode will produce a large amount of monovalent copper during the dissolution process and copper powder will appear in the plating tank, which will affect the quality of electroplating.
As for the manganese-copper anode, beryllium-copper anode, and purple copper anode, the degree of their disproportionation reaction is relatively high, causing the copper powder produced by the anode to move to the cathode, resulting in a rough surface.
Generally speaking, the phosphorus-copper anode can reduce the degree of differentiation during electro-deposition, and decrease the generation of copper powder. Therefore, when performing acidic copper plating with a phosphorus-copper anode, the surface roughness of the deposited layer is smaller. Then, is there a requirement for the phosphorus content?
Yes, when using Bigely acid copper brightener Cu-510, it is recommended that the phosphorus content of the copper anode should be between 0.03% and 0.06%. If the phosphorus content of the anode plate is too low, copper powder may easily form; if the phosphorus content is too high, the anode will be in a completely passivated state and will also contaminate the solution.
The copper anodes produced by oneself often fail to meet this requirement. You can purchase them from the electroplating material supply department. To prevent the insoluble impurities in the copper anodes from contaminating the plating solution, it is recommended to wrap the anode plates (using polyester fabric).
