What are the requirements for the quality of the coating after using the hard chromium additive?
For the hardness test of the chromium coating, electroplating plants are allowed to use various qualified microhardness testers and standard hardness blocks to calibrate the hardness. They can also measure the hardness according to the regulations of the metallographic profession. Generally, it should reach Vickers hardness of 6865 to 9807 MPa. Under normal circumstances, it should be guaranteed by the process specifications.
After applying the Bigely hard chrome additive for plating, how can the bonding strength of the obtained chrome coating be tested? Generally, methods such as bending test, heating test, extrusion test and grinding test are used for the testing.
The ISO2819 method involves conducting a bending test on a sample coated with a 25-um chromium layer. This method is regarded as effective by some electroplaters. Others believe that the thermal vibration test is also effective.
For thickened chrome-plated parts, normal grinding processing (grinding, polishing, boring grinding, etc.) should be carried out on the parts. After the grinding process, if the coating does not show any peeling or detachment phenomena, it can be considered that the adhesion of the chrome coating is qualified.
