During the electroplating process using acid copper brightener, the bath temperature is a key factor affecting the quality of the coating. Different temperatures will have different effects on the performance of the bath and the coating. In this article, we will analyze this issue.
When the bath temperature is slightly lower, the adsorption performance of the acid copper brightener is good, and the surface finish of the coating is better. This is beneficial for improving the brightness uniformity in the low current density area.
If the bath temperature is too low, the JK value can be too small, which may cause the coating to have the problem of burning. For the high-copper-low-acid process, copper sulfate is prone to crystallize and precipitate. First, the crystals precipitate on the anode bag and the anode surface, then they form crystals on the bottom and walls of the tank. The anode dissolution deteriorates and it is prone to passivation. In a medium-acid copper plating solution with a temperature as low as 5℃, no copper sulfate crystals will form. Some acid copper brighteners on the market will produce colored film layers in the high-JK area when the bath temperature is low and the chloride ion content is too low.
The bath temperature is slightly higher, allowing for a larger JK value. The increase in bath conductivity is beneficial for enhancing the dispersion ability of the bath.
If the bath temperature is too high, it will not only cause fogging of the coating in the low Jk area; it will also lead to an increase in the amount of brightener used, an increase in decomposition products, and a faster accumulation of organic impurities.
