Three reasons why the coating is prone to peeling or bubbling during the production process using nickel plating additives

In the production process of using nickel plating additives, sometimes the workpiece coating is prone to peeling or bubbling, which seriously affects the appearance and performance quality of the coating. So what causes the peeling and foaming phenomenon of the coating?

Bigely Technology has conducted an analysis based on on-site experience and product characteristics, mainly for the following three reasons:

1.Poor pre-treatment of workpieces before plating. If the pre-treatment of the workpiece is not thorough or the washing is not clean, there will be residual oxide scale and other impurities on the surface when entering the nickel tank, which will cause peeling and bubbling of the coating. During production, it is necessary to strengthen the pre-treatment process of the workpiece before plating, and it is strictly prohibited for residual oxide scale or oil stains on the surface of the workpiece to enter the nickel tank.

2.There are impurities of Zn2+and NO3- present in the plating solution. Zn2+and NO3- impurities can cause black stripes in the nickel layer, increase the internal stress of the coating, make the coating brittle, and lead to powder like peeling of the coating. During the production process, electrolysis can be used to remove impurities such as Zn2+and NO3-.

3.The addition ratio of additives is imbalanced. Additives should be added according to the instructions during the replenishment process. When the concentration of brightener is high and the concentration of softener is low, the internal stress of the nickel plating layer will increase, leading to peeling and detachment of the nickel layer. When the proportion of additives in the plating solution is imbalanced, excess brightener can be decomposed with 2-3ml/L H2O2, and then the plating solution can be heated to 60-80 ℃ to remove excess H2O2. Activated carbon is added and stirred for 30 minutes, and then left to stand for 2-3 hours before filtering. Nickel sulfate and boric acid are added to adjust the pH value of the plating solution, and an appropriate amount of softener is added.

So, in the production process of using nickel plating additives, when the coating of the workpiece is prone to peeling or bubbling, we should check the pre-treatment of the workpiece, whether the additives are out of balance, and whether it is affected by impurities.
