During the application of acid copper brightener, some electroplating factories often encounter the problem of poor brightening and leveling of the coating on the entire sheet of parts, which causes them great trouble. What is the cause of this?
Reason 1: Insufficient amount of acid copper brightener
The acid copper brightener is an indispensable component in the sulfate copper plating bath. Without the presence of the brightener, it is impossible to obtain a well-brightened and smooth coating. The amount of the brightener added should be controlled. If too little is added, it will also affect the brightening and smoothness performance of the coating.
Reason 2: The plating solution is too dilute
The components such as sulfuric acid and copper sulfate in the plating solution also play significant roles. When the concentrations of these components are too low, it will affect the performance of the entire plating solution, and the brightness and smoothness of the coating on the parts will also deteriorate. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly test and analyze the plating solution, replenish the components in a timely manner, and keep the content within the allowable range of the process.
Reason 3: Insufficient cathode current density and too short plating time
Acidic bright copper plating with high cathode current density results in a bright and smooth coating with fast lightening speed. When the distance between the anode and cathode is greater than or equal to 400mm and the workpiece is properly hung, the cathode current density is generally recommended to be 3.5 - 5A/dm2.
So, under what circumstances would the cathode current density be low? For example, as mentioned above, if the plating solution is too dilute, there are too few chloride ions, or the quality of the acidic copper plating brightener is poor, all of these factors would reduce the upper limit of the allowable cathode current density.
