Why does the coating quality tend to fail when using matte tin additives? It might be due to the lack of proper control of the process conditions. Therefore, it is very necessary to understand how to control the process conditions of sulfate matte tin.
Electroplating temperature
The matte tin plating is carried out at room temperature or a slightly higher temperature. If the temperature is too low, the diffusion rate of the sub-surface tin ions slows down, and the deposition rate of tin also slows down. This reduces the allowable current density, resulting in scorching in the high areas of the coating.
If the temperature is too high, on the one hand, it is likely to cause the stability of the plating solution to deteriorate; on the other hand, it may weaken the effect of the matte tin additive, resulting in the inability to deposit a coating in the lower area.
Therefore, when using Bigely matte tin additive Sn-808, it is recommended to control the temperature within the range of 15-25℃. This will facilitate the deposition of a bright and uniform tin coating.

Cathode current density
Generally speaking, when the cathode current density is too low, the polarization effect of the cathode is insufficient, resulting in larger grains, rough tin plating layer, and decreased brightness. Since the low area has the lowest current density, a whitish coating appears first.
When the cathode current density is too high, the polarization effect of the cathode becomes excessive. The high-temperature zone, with the highest current density, will be the first to char.
Therefore, when customers of the electroplating factory use Bigley's matte tin additive, they need to keep the cathode current density within the range of 1.0 - 2.0 A/dm2.
