The formation of burrs on the acid copper plating is related to the copper anode

Why do burrs appear on the plating layer when using acid copper brighteners? This is the result of monovalent copper interference. Monovalent copper undergoes hydrolysis reactions, producing a rough plating layer and sometimes copper powder. These substances cause burrs to form on the plating surface and make it rough.

We need to scientifically select and use copper anodes.

The anodes used must be sourced from specialized manufacturers with fixed production sites. During electroplating operations, if the electroplating plant observes the absence of a brownish-black film (composed of phosphorized copper) on the anode plates, this indicates low phosphorus content, which impairs the anode's normal dissolution. In such cases, use should be discontinued immediately.

If there is no brownish-black film on a specific area of the anode plate, this indicates uneven phosphorus content. In such cases, use must also be discontinued, and the anode plate should be replaced with a suitable one.

When using Bigely acid copper brightener, select copper anodes with a phosphorus content of 0.03% to 0.06%. Do not move the anodes during operation to prevent the brownish-black film from falling into the plating bath and causing contamination, which may result in burrs on the coating. Ensure the anode-to-cathode area ratio is no less than 1.5:1. Avoid using excessively thick anode sleeves to prevent clogging (single-layer polyester cloth is recommended).
