We all know that using amino sulfonic acid nickel plating additives in plating solutions can obtain metal coatings with better mechanical properties than traditional nickel sulfate plating solutions. Due to the advantages of low internal stress, good ductility, high hardness, and good uniformity of the coatings, they are highly favored by customers. What factors affect the quality of the coating during the production process of using amino sulfonic acid nickel plating additives?
Bigely Technology has conducted an analysis based on on-site experience and product characteristics, mainly focusing on the following six points:
1.The impact on water quality. The amino sulfonic acid nickel plating solution has relatively high requirements for water quality, so trace impurities in the water can cause instability of the plating solution. For example, there are more Ca2+and Mg2+in the water, and the conductivity can be between 300-800 μ s/cm. After being electrified, it is easy to react with organic compounds in the plating solution to form complexes, which affect the mechanical properties of the nickel plating layer. Generally, low conductivity water should be used in production, with a conductivity of 5-20 μ s/cm.
2.The impact of stirring. There are generally air agitation, mechanical agitation, and plating solution circulation agitation methods. Air agitation is suitable for electroplating with low coating requirements. Although the cost is low, air can introduce impurities that can affect the composition of the plating solution. The nickel aminosulfonate plating solution mainly adopts mechanical cathode movement and filtration circulation stirring. The cathode movement is generally 20-25 times/min, and the filtration circulation is about 3 times/hour for the plating solution in the tank. Stirring too fast or too slow is not conducive to the formation of the coating.
3.The influence of current density. The deposition rate of nickel increases with the increase of current density, and the current density of nickel aminosulfonate plating solution is generally controlled between 1-4A/dm2. Low current density and poor coating brightness; High current density may cause defects on the surface of the coating
4.The influence of temperature. The temperature for producing nickel aminosulfonate plating solution is generally 50-70 ℃. If the temperature exceeds 80 ℃, the plating solution is prone to decomposition, and low temperature is not conducive to the deposition of the coating.
5.The influence of pH value of plating solution. The strength and hardness of the coating increase with the increase of the pH value of the plating solution, while the ductility and internal stress decrease with the increase of the pH value of the plating solution.
6.The influence of nickel ion concentration and chloride content in plating solution. The strength, tensile stress, and hardness of the coating decrease with increasing nickel ion concentration and chloride content, while the ductility and internal stress increase with increasing nickel ion concentration and chloride content.
Therefore, water quality, stirring method, current density, temperature, pH value of the plating solution, nickel ion concentration and chloride content in the plating solution have a significant impact on the quality of the coating. When using amino sulfonic acid nickel plating additives, we should strictly control various process parameters to ensure good coating quality.
