During the production process, we sometimes find that the electroless nickel coating on the workpiece is relatively rough, which can affect the appearance and performance of the coating. Is the rough coating caused by improper addition of electroless nickel plating solution?
However, the rough chemical nickel coating on the workpiece may be affected not only by the high concentration of the plating solution, but also by the following four situations:
1.The temperature or pH value of the plating solution is too high. If the temperature of the plating solution is too high, it is easy to lose control due to the fast deposition rate; However, if the pH value is too high, the plating solution is prone to precipitate nickel hypophosphite, which triggers spontaneous decomposition of the plating solution. During the production process, the temperature and pH value of the plating solution should be strictly controlled.
2.There is contamination from solid impurities in the plating solution. Cover the chemical nickel plating solution with a lid when stopping production to prevent dust or solid particles from falling into the plating solution from the air. Because these dust or solid particles can cause the natural decomposition of the plating solution, resulting in a relatively rough chemical nickel layer.
3.The concentration of hypophosphite in the plating solution is too high. Hypophosphate is mainly a byproduct of sodium hypophosphite. As production progresses, hypophosphite accumulates continuously in the plating solution. When the concentration of hypophosphite is high, it is easy to trigger spontaneous decomposition of the plating solution, resulting in a rougher coating.
4.The concentration of chelating agent in the plating solution is relatively low. Complexators can chelate nickel ions to avoid precipitation. When the concentration of chelating agent is low, the plating solution is unstable and the coating is rough. At this time, it is necessary to supplement the chelating agent appropriately.
So, the rough chemical nickel coating on the workpiece may not necessarily be due to improper addition of electroless nickel plating solution, but may also be due to inadequate control of the plating solution during the production process. In addition, deionized water or distilled water should be used as much as possible during production to improve the quality of the workpiece coating and extend the service life of the plating solution.
