How to Effectively Control the Process Parameters of Chemical Nickel Plating Solution

To achieve proper control of the process parameters for the chemical nickel plating solution, in addition to controlling the composition of the bath solution and the temperature of the plating solution, it is also necessary to ensure proper filtration and stirring.

During the process of using the chemical nickel plating solution, if the temperature of the solution is uneven in some areas, it will affect the quality of the coating. To avoid such a situation, one of the measures that the electroplating factory needs to take is to adopt indirect heating (using a water bath method), rather than direct heating.

In the chemical nickel plating process, stirring plays multiple roles: On one hand, it can effectively level out the concentration difference between the workpiece surface and the main body of the bath solution (which is known as the concentration gradient); on the other hand, it can promptly remove hydrogen gas bubbles adhered to the workpiece surface, reducing the occurrence of surface defects such as pinholes and pockmarks. At the same time, stirring also helps to achieve uniform temperature in the bath solution, further enhancing the stability of the process.

Let me add a few more points here. Moderate stirring can accelerate the detachment of reaction by-products from the surface of the workpiece, allowing the fresh plating solution to continuously come into contact with the surface of the workpiece, thereby helping to increase the deposition rate and reducing phenomena such as pitting of the coating. The method and intensity of stirring will also have an impact on the phosphorus content in the coating, thereby changing the corrosion resistance and hardness of the coating and other coating properties.

However, as we mentioned in our previous article, if the stirring intensity is too high, it can lead to a phenomenon of incomplete plating, which is also not acceptable.

The chemical nickel plating solution is highly sensitive to impurity ions. The presence of pollutants such as cadmium, lead, chromium, and cyanide can cause the solution to decompose or lead to a decline in the performance of the coating. Bigely, a manufacturer of chemical nickel plating solutions, suggests that electroplating plants should effectively isolate the solution containing these substances from the chemical nickel plating solution, and appropriately extend the water washing time between processes. To maintain the stability of the solution and meet the requirements of continuous production, the quality of the production water must be strictly controlled.
