Discuss the characteristics of nickel sulfamate electroplating process

What are the characteristics of the nickel sulfamate solution? To meet the requirements of the coating performance, what kind of nickel sulfamate additive is needed?

The nickel sulfamate electroplating process has two significant advantages. One is that the nickel coating has good toughness, and the other is that the internal stress is low. However, it is not possible to obtain a stress-free coating in this plating solution. It is only that compared to other nickel plating processes, its stress is smaller.

Which factors can affect the stress of the coating? Generally speaking, they are related to the following four points:

① pH value

② Temperature

③ Current density

④ Has the additive been added?

For instance, when the bath temperature and cathode current density are at low levels, the resulting coating has almost no stress. However, when the bath temperature and cathode current density increase, the coating will generate compressive stress. Of course, this stress is lower than that of the nickel coating obtained in ordinary nickel plating solutions. This is because the operation conditions at low temperature and low current density are too inefficient. Therefore, considering both the need to maintain production efficiency and to obtain a coating with low stress, it is often necessary to add the Bigely nickel sulfamate additive Ni-1000 to achieve the goal.

The nickel sulfamate electroplating process can be used for nickel plating before gold plating on printed circuit boards. After adding the nickel-1000 additive of amino sulfamate to this plating solution, it has the advantages of allowing a large current density, fast deposition speed, and superior dispersion ability compared to sulfate-based nickel plating solutions.

If the chloride ions in the plating solution are too high, it will increase the internal stress of the coating. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the content of chloride ions or even eliminate them completely. However, the presence of chloride ions helps to reduce anodic passivation. What should we do? Bigely engineer discovered in the electroplating production process that when using sulfur-containing nickel blocks as anodes, they can maintain a high rate of anode dissolution, and no passivation occurs even in solutions without chloride ions. Therefore, it is advisable to use sulfur-containing nickel blocks, and then there is no need to add chloride ions.
