The influence of the surface finish of the workpiece
One of the most significant factors affecting the weldability of coatings is the surface finish of the workpiece. That is to say, a surface with good finish has better weldability than one with a rough surface. Why is it like this?
This is because the better the smoothness of the base metal, the finer and tighter the crystallization of the coating will be. In addition, the surface of the coating is not clean and is prone to white fog. After high-temperature aging, the weldability of the coating deteriorates.
Treatment method: If the surface of the workpiece is found to be rough upon receiving the material, it needs to be polished before electroplating.
The influence of aging plating solution
The solderability of the tin coatings plated by the old plating solution and the newly prepared plating solution was compared and tested. The results showed that the workpieces plated by the newly prepared plating solution had better solderability.
The reason lies in the fact that there are many decomposition products in the old plating solution (caused by poor quality of tin plating brightener). When the plating layer contains too many decomposition products, it will affect its solderability.
The influence of brightener performance
Although different brighteners can all produce tin coatings with the same brightness, their soldering properties vary greatly. Therefore, brighteners should be selected reasonably.
