The REDOX reactions involved in the process of using electroless nickel plating solution require thermal energy, and this is true for any electroless plating bath. Except for a few plating baths, such as some alkaline electroless nickel plating, the vast majority of plating baths only show a significant plating speed at least above 50℃.
Different plating baths have varying degrees of sensitivity to temperature. However, without exception, when the temperature rises, the plating speed also increases. According to the empirical formula of chemical kinetics, the deposition rate of electroless nickel plating is an exponential function of the bath temperature. For some electroless plating baths, when the temperature rises by 1℃, the deposition rate increases by 5% to 7%. The plating speed is faster at higher temperatures.
However, many electroplating factories have reported that raising the temperature to increase the plating speed involves the risk of the plating bath decomposing. To achieve the fastest possible plating speed without significantly reducing the stability of the plating bath, there exists an optimal operating temperature range for each plating bath. For instance, the optimal operating range for an acid hypophosphite plating bath is usually between 80 and 90 degrees Celsius.
