Chromium plating exhibits low current efficiency and high current density. During the electroplating process, hydrogen gas is extensively evolved at the cathode. At pore locations, gas accumulates more densely. Due to the large volume of gas gathering, the plating solution around the pores is displaced, preventing chromium ions from discharging in the vicinity of the pores. Consequently, no chromium layer forms around the pores.

Treatment method: Plug the pores with lead, rubber, or plastic to facilitate the discharge of chromium ions.

Before using chromium plating additives, workpieces require pretreatment activation. The activation solution typically used in electroplating plants is a 5% to 10% sulfuric acid solution.
