Stirring increases the permissible cathode current density and reduces the burning of the plated layer while suppressing the side reaction of hydrogen precipitation and reducing the amount of hydrogen precipitation, thus decreasing the failure rate of the plated layer to produce gas pinholes and pockmarks, decreasing the amount of hydrogen seepage from the plated layer, and decreasing the hydrogen embrittlement danger. Stirring makes the hydrogen precipitated on the surface of cathode not easy to stay on the surface but escape uniformly as soon as possible, so as not to reduce the bright uniformity of the plated layer.

Why does this happen? Engineers analyzed the problem because during static plating, hydrogen gas flow is continuously generated from some points along the surface of the workpiece, and the localized flushing and stirring results in the appearance of a range of stripes that are brighter than the rest of the workpiece. If the cathode is moved, the problem can be solved by preventing the generation of hydrogen precipitation stripes.
