3 reasons why the workpiece coating has pinholes when aluminum workpieces are produced with electroless nickel plating solutions


    When aluminum workpieces are produced with electroless nickel plating solution, sometimes pinholes appear in the coating of workpieces. What is the reason?

    1. The concentration of wetting agent in the plating solution is too low.An appropriate amount of wetting agent should be added to reduce the surface tension of the plating solution and facilitate the discharge of foaming.For the bath where the cathode moves, an appropriate amount of sodium dodecyl sulfate can be added.For electroplating baths using air agitation, a low-foaming or non-foaming wetting agent should be used.

    2. Organic impurities or foreign organic impurities and grease pollution generated by the decomposition of additives in the plating solution.During electroless nickel deposition, impurities can be incorporated into the coating resulting in pinholes.The bath should be treated with activated carbon and filtered to remove impurities.

    3. There are many iron impurities in the plating solution.When there are too many iron impurities, the quality of the electroless nickel coating will be reduced, spots will be formed in the coating and a rough coating will be formed, and at the same time, the brittleness of the coating will be increased, resulting in pinholes.Iron impurities can be removed by electrolysis or precipitation.
