However, cyanide is highly toxic and poses a huge threat to worker safety in actual production. Therefore, the industry began to look for a cyanide-free galvanizing process technology that can replace cyanide galvanizing. Some researchers have tried to use electroplating solution with zinc oxide and sodium hydroxide as the main components instead of the traditional cyanide plating.
The dispersion ability of the cyanide-free plating solution was found to be comparable to that of the cyanide solution, and the deep-deposition ability and deposition rate were found to be better than those of the cyanide galvanizing. The bonding strength of the coating was tested by bending and high temperature baking without peeling. In terms of corrosion resistance, cyanide-free galvanizing is better than cyanide galvanizing.
Alkaline cyanide-free solution solves both the toxicity problem of cyanide plating solution and the inherent corrosion problem of acidic solution on electroplating equipment. However, metal ions in alkaline solutions are prone to form powdery precipitates.
